The Riddle: Where Ideas Come From and How to Have Better Ones

Have you ever had a problem you couldn't figure out no matter how hard you tried? Someone likely advised you to "Take a break. Don't think so hard." And so you did. And then, on waking up, while in the shower, or while stuck in traffic, it happened. "Aha!" you said. "I've got it! I've figured it out!" Just when you least expected it, you became suddenly creative – an instant innovator was born! In this fascinating keynote presentation, best-selling author and Kellogg School of Management professor Andrew Razeghi will share research from his book entitled
THE RIDDLE whereby he takes readers on a journey into the precise moment of creative insight known famously as the Eureka moment. Professor Razeghi will explain why it happens, when it happens, and - most importantly - what you can do to make it happen more often. As it turns out, thinking differently
may be oversold. If you want to learn to be more innovative, you won’t want to miss this talk!

Audience Learning Outcomes for The Riddle

   1) learn why you have your best ideas when you are least likely trying to have them;
   2) learn how emotion, knowledge, memory, and ethnicity may help/hinder your creativity;
   3) learn how to improve your creativity by practicing common pre-cursors to Eureka!

Andrew Razeghi is a best-selling author and adjunct associate professor at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. As a writer, educator, and adviser to organizations creativity and innovation, his work spans industries, from consumer packaged goods to healthcare, tourism to media, and non-profit organizations to professional sports teams. A few of his clients include Aurora Healthcare, Brinker International, Darden Restaurants, GE, GlaxoSmithKline, the Houston Texans, Motorola, Novartis, PepsiCo, Switzerland Tourism, and World Kitchen. Andrew speaks to thousands of people each year at trade association and organization events and has appeared in a number of media outlets including ABC-TV, Air America, The Chicago Sun-Times, China Daily, El Norte (Mexico), FAST COMPANY, NPR, The San Francisco Chronicle, and The San Jose Mercury News.  http://www.andrewrazeghi.com/

Praise for the Riddle

“This book provides a very clear insight into the way people have new ideas and suggests practical steps that can be used. The approach is different from the formal tools of lateral thinking but equally valid.”
- Dr. Edward de Bono, Originator of Lateral Thinking, Founder of the World Academy for New Thinking

“The Riddle is a remarkable gift cleverly wrapped in a “must read” book. Razeghi thoughtfully awakens and emerges us in that “eyes wide open, believing is seeing, blissfully ignorant” state of childhood so desperately needed in our world today. As “innovation” and “creativity” emerge from their awkward adolescence, The Riddle is not just a right of passage surprise party for your brain but a compelling travel guide for your eager neurons and creative juices.”
- Thomas Stat, Relationship Designer, Innovation Alchemist IDEO

“Every innovator in the world looks constantly for the Eureka moment. The Riddle is a must read book for every problem solver to understand the creative process and to learn how to provoke Eureka moments continuously.”
- Salvador Alva, President, PepsiCo Foods & Beverages Latin America

“Professor Razeghi has revealed that creativity is not an art, but a science and skill that anyone can learn.  His numerous examples and fascinating anecdotes make this book a must-read for anyone, whether you are a CEO or a stock boy, physicist or phys-ed teacher, who wants to problem-solve more effectively.”
- Jonathan Greenblatt, Founder, Ethos Water and former Vice President of Starbuck’s Coffee Company

“Enlightening! As an entrepreneur, The Riddle gave me a framework to make successful innovation a repeatable process.”
- Chuck Templeton, Founder, OpenTable, Inc.

“Andrew Razeghi's Riddle is an easy to understand, step-by-step guide to improving your creativity. l learned how to approach a problem, how to look for solutions and most importantly how to inspire my very own “Eureka”moments. The book is rich in examples and the best thing of all: it is great fun to read.”
- Urs Eberhard, Executive Vice President, Switzerland Tourism
